Hometown?
Newport News, Virginia
Where did you go to school? And what did you study?
Radford University, and I got my Bachelor’s Degree in Media Studies: Journalism
What made you want to go down your path?
Well since I was young I’ve just gravitated towards debates about the NFL and sports in general. What sold me on media was my experiences with NNPS-TV while in high school. I had the opportunity to be a student announcer and that’s where I fell in love with being in front of the camera, behind the mic, and creating content.
Where you involved with any clubs or organizations?
I was a member of Radio Free Radford and Highlander Student Media for about three and a half years. Two of those years I was the station manager/program director for Radio Free Radford!
What were your biggest accomplishments?
My biggest accomplishments I feel were two things. Number one being our membership. When I started as the GM it was two other members and myself. By the time I had left I had accumulated fifty hosts and my average staff size was consistently over twenty members. My other biggest accomplishment I feel was raising the awareness around Radford University’s campus not just of Radio Free Radford but also of Highlander Student Media as a whole. During my time we were, behind the student newspaper, the most well known student media organization on campus. That boost in popularity helped us continue to recruit members for ourselves as well as the other student media organizations.
2024 Update: Still having an amazing connection to Radio Free Radford! I still have current leaders reach out for insight to help grow and expand the organization and it makes me so incredibly proud to still be contributing even years after graduating.
Biggest failure?
I think that the biggest thing I failed at while the Radio Free Radford General Manager was the lack of equipment changeover. In hindsight I think I could have done a better job pushing the Student Media Committee to grant us funding for better mics, programs, and studio equipment overall.
Favorite type of music to listen to?
Alternative mostly, but my taste goes in different directions
Favorite musicians/groups?
Hozier, Tame Impala, Cannons, Mac Miller, Creepy Nuts, the list goes on honestly. This is just what I’ve been jamming to lately.
Favorite movie and why?
Asking someone their favorite movie is a difficult question, but I would have to say her. (2013). I love how well it shows how people are willing to connect and desire connection. Be it in another person or, in her.’s case, a very advanced artificial intelligence.
Favorite TV Show?
Impossible choice to name just one to be honest. Huge fan of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, One Piece, Succession, The Sopranos, Top Gear/The Grand Tour, Drive to Survive, Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul, the list goes on and on…
Favorite game?
Elden Ring. I can’t think of another game I’ve spent this much time playing and going out of my way to learn more and more about the world and lore. It’s a challenge certainly, but the story put together in the nooks and crannies of the world is amazing.
Favorite sports teams?
The New England Patriots, Boston Celtics, Mercedes Formula 1 Team, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, Radford Highlanders, and Virginia Tech Hokies
